Opening: HYPERSCALE
12 Nov 2021  17-20

Art space Spanien19C inaugurates its new location with the exhibition HYPERSCALE by artist Jacob Remin and philosopher Gustav Johannes Hoder. For two years Remin and Hoder have been researching the geopolitics surrounding three data centers currently being built in Denmark by Google, Facebook and Apple.

In computing, hyperscale refers to architectures and systems that can be scaled as demand increases or decreases. This is often applied to big data or cloud computing applications, but the terms are carried into the physical realm, as hyperscale data centers are constructed following the same principles of scalability.

Through video, installation and sound, the exhibition HYPERSCALE presents a critical vision of the physical reality, which is the digital cloud. Focusing on the three hyperscale data centers which are currently being built in Denmark, along with several others in planning, the exhibition examines the material aspects of the data abstraction, as it is currently under construction.

HYPERSCALE is a result of an ongoing collaboration between visual artist Jacob Remin and philosopher Gustav Johannes Hoder. A publication presenting their artistic research accompanied by texts from Keller Easterling, Natalie P. Koerner, and James Maguire will be launched at the finissage 2. december.
